Rick Riordan

(link to his website⇾) Rick Riordan is an american novelist. The New York Times has deemed him "storyteller of the gods" . He has written several series. The most well known is probably, one of his intermediate and best-selling series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which is based on Greek mythology. The first book (The Lightning Thief) was originally published in 2005. The first book was followed by four others (in order; The Sea of Monsters, 2006, The Titan's Curse, 2007, The Battle of the Labyrinth, 2008) and the last, but certainly not the least The Last Olympian, which was published in 2009. Twentieth-century Fox actually bought the film rights, and turned the first two Percy Jackson books into movies (the books are way better). Rick Riordan's son Haley actually inspired the fact that Percy has dyslexia and ADHD, whenever he was diagnosed with the same two disorders. His son also inspired the actual story of Percy Jackson altogether since he wasn't interested in any other bedtime stories Riordan started telling him Greek mythology.
Before, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series Riordan had written an adult, mystery series Tres Navarre(in order; Big Red Tequila, 1997, The Widower's Two-Step, 1998, The Last King of Texas,2001, The Devil Went Down to Austin, 2002, Southtown,2004, Mission Road,2005, Rebel Island, 2008), about a Texan private eye.
After, the Percy Jackson series Riordan wrote the Kane Chronicles series, my personal favorite, which is based on Egyptian mythology(in order; Red Pyramid, 2010, The Throne of Fire, 2011, and The Serpent's Shadow, 2012)  and the Heroes of Olympus series, which is a continuation of the Percy Jackson series, and is a mixture of Greek and Roman mythology(in order; The Lost Hero, 2010, The Son of Neptune, 2011, The Mark of Athena, 2012, The House of Hades, 2013, and The Blood of Olympus, 2014). Both series were and are a major success. (Both of the series are intermediate level.)
Riordan's most recent series are Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, which is based on Norse mythology(in order; The Sword of Summer, 2015, The Hammer of Thor, 2016, and The Ship of the Dead, 2017) and he is still writing The Trial's of Apollo, which is a sequel to The Heroes of Olympus, and is also a mixture of Greek and Roman mythology,(in order; The Hidden Oracle, 2016, The Dark Prophecy, 2017, and The Burning Maze, 2018) the next book, The Tyrant's Tomb, is scheduled to come out fall 2019. (Both of the series are intermediate level.)
He has also helped write the children's book series 39 Clues(2008-2011), and he has written the stand alone novel Cold Springs, which was published in 2004.
In addition to the Percy Jackson series and the Kane Chronicles series Riordan has written the Demigods and Magicians crossover collection incorporating both series.
Many of his books have been turned into graphic novels, or have different works related to them.
A lot of the intermediate series cross over into each other, are a continuation of another series, or elude to one another. Rick Riordan has definitely created a mythological universe, that has a huge fan base.
Riordan has won many, many awards. Including the following:
  • 1998 Shamus Award for Best First PI Novel and Anthony Award for Best Paperback Original for Big Red Tequila
  • 1999 Edgar Award for Best Paperback Original for The Widower's Two-Step
  • 2008 Mark Twain Award for The Lightning Thief
  • 2009 Mark Twain Award for The Sea of Monsters
  • 2009 Rebecca Caudill Award for The Lightning Thief
  • 2010 School Library Journal's Best Book for The Red Pyramid
  • 2011 Children's Choice Book Awards : Author of the Year
  • 2011 Children's Choice Book Awards : Fifth Grade to Sixth Grade Book of the Year for The Red Pyramid
  • 2011 Wyoming Soaring Eagle Book Award for The Last Olympian
  • 2011 Milner award for Percy Jackson and the Olympians series
  • 2012 Indian Paintbrush Award for The Red Pyramid
  • 2013 Best Fiction Book for Children in Bulgaria for The Mark of Athena
  • 2017 Stonewall Book Award for Children's Literature for The Hammer of Thor
Rick Riordan also has an imprint with Disney-Hyperian called "Rick Riordan Presents". It is headed by Riordan's editor, Stephanie Owens Lurie. None of Riordan's own work will be published "whose role is closer to curator". Since, Riordan already has a huge work load as is, the point of this imprint is to bring under-recognized authors into the spotlight, and to bring more diverse mythology along with them, while also satisfying Riordan's fans.
Some of the books are the following :
  • Aru Shah and the End of Time, 2018, by Roshani Chokshi, which is based on Hindu mythology. The sequel to this book Aru Shah and the Song of Death is scheduled to come out April 16, 2019.
  • Storm Runner, 2018, by Jennifer Cervantes, which is based Mayan mythology.
  • Dragon Pearl by Yoon Ha Lee, which is based on Korean mythology is scheduled to come out January 15, 2019.
Rick Riordan was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He has degrees in English and in History. He also has teaching certificates in both subjects and he taught for eight years. He his wife's name is Becky and they have two sons, Haley and Patrick.

Powerful Quotes from Five Feet Apart by Racheal Lippincott

"Our best defense is distance. Six feet is the golden rule," she says, before bending over to pick up a pool cue from next to her bed. " This is five feet. Five. Feet." . . .       She holds up the pool cue defiantly, fighting for every one of us. " I'm stealing three hundred and four point eight millimeters. Twelve whole inches. One freaking foot of space, distance, length" . . .       "Cystic fibrosis will steal no more from me. From now on. I am the thief." If I'm going to die, I'd like to actually live first. - Will To be fair, though, anything can be optional if you're creative enough. - Will "Okay, okay. I'd like to travel the world and really get to see it, you know? Not just the inside of hospitals." He looks back down and keeps sketching. "They're kind of all the same. Same generic rooms. Same tile floors. Same sterile smell. I've been everywhere without actually seeing...

A Discussion on Love (Talk 1: perspectives)

Love? What is this thing that people have written about, sang about, talked about, and experienced? Is it an emotion or a feeling? An action?  Is it a phenomenon? What is this thing that everyone wants, but doesn't actually know what it is?  Let's face it: we hear people all the time saying that love is the remedy to the world's problems blah blah blah etc. Yet, with all preaching we don't even know what we need; we don't know what love is. I think we once knew what it was, but got lost in all the commotion. We don't take time to understand what it is; we just regurgitate what somebody else says until it spirals beyond control, and we get caught up in our own mess; in our own lies. Wow, that was depressing. Anyway, I digress. So, on to the point, what is love? Personally, I think that pure, real, true love is out of human reach. I know what some of you are thinking, and you don't have to agree with me. So, chill out. Anyway, I believe this because I look aro...
