About Me

  Hello, all!

I am an education major, so it seems fitting to talk about my education first.

I was originally going to pursue an English Lit degree. Although I love all things literature, I decided to focus on literacy instead and go for education. I have another blog where I write about my experiences pursuing my education degree and my relationship with learning in general. You can find this at the following link: https://ttuteacherintraining.blogspot.com/

First and foremost my name is Skyla. I am a proud Roane State Community College alumni. I am currently a student at Tennessee Technological University. I'm majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in English as a Second Language (ESL). I am also currently pursuing my Master's in Curriculum which I hope to finish summer 2024. It's easy to say that this keeps me very busy.

When I am not pursuing higher education, I am an education intern with the Oak Ridge Institute for Science Education (ORISE). I work on a plethora of projects, but one of the main things I focus on is ORISE competitions. We provide both students and teacher competitions. I've provided the links to each below.

Student competitions: https://orise.orau.gov/resources/k12/competitions-for-students.html

Teacher Competitions: https://orise.orau.gov/resources/k12/competitions-for-educators.html

We also edit the winning lesson plans from teacher competitions in order to make them as practical and usable as possible. The idea behind each lesson plan is that teachers should be able to print out a lesson plan and know what they are supposed to do right off the bat. No prep or study needed (although highly suggested). Check out the link for these below:

When I am not doing school or working, I have several hobbies that I love. I enjoy reading. I mainly read fiction including classics, YA, contemporary romance/fiction, adult fiction, historical fiction, etc. I also like reading books about historical figures, psychology, and neuroscience. I regularly exercise, practicing yoga, Pilates, and cardio. I listen to music; there is no rhyme or reason to why I like the music I do. My motto is if it sounds good to you, listen to it. I'm an old soul, so I must partake in some sort of grandma activity which would be crochet. I don't often have a chance to do these things, but I try my best to make time. I'm not very much of a movie watcher, but if I am going to watch a movie I like it to be historical such as The Help, Hacksaw Ridge, Saving Mr. Banks, Sully, etc. Lastly, I am a complete tea fanatic. Some of my favorites are Irish Breakfast, Earl Grey, chamomile, green, and peach tea.

I hope This gave you a better snapshot of who the author of this blog is. I can't wait to share information with you guys and hear what you have to say in response!

There is always another door."  "It is pointless to believe what you see, if you only see what you believe." " Once upon a winter I met a man in the woods  The man beckoned me over To see a satchel of goods He offered three wishes I asked for beauty, love, riches And he froze me in stone where I stood." "To love is to be afraid. You are frightened, deathly terrified, that something will happen to those you love. Think of the possibilities. Does your heart clench with each thought? That, my friend, is love. And love enslaves us all, for you cannot have love without fear." "Trust is when we plummet into the depths of an abyss and reach out for each other's hands." There are four places where the spirits still wander. . . the snow-covered Dark of Night, the forgotten paradise of Sabri Elan, the G...

Powerful Quotes from Five Feet Apart by Racheal Lippincott

"Our best defense is distance. Six feet is the golden rule," she says, before bending over to pick up a pool cue from next to her bed. " This is five feet. Five. Feet." . . .       She holds up the pool cue defiantly, fighting for every one of us. " I'm stealing three hundred and four point eight millimeters. Twelve whole inches. One freaking foot of space, distance, length" . . .       "Cystic fibrosis will steal no more from me. From now on. I am the thief." If I'm going to die, I'd like to actually live first. - Will To be fair, though, anything can be optional if you're creative enough. - Will "Okay, okay. I'd like to travel the world and really get to see it, you know? Not just the inside of hospitals." He looks back down and keeps sketching. "They're kind of all the same. Same generic rooms. Same tile floors. Same sterile smell. I've been everywhere without actually seeing...

A Discussion on Love (Talk 1: perspectives)

Love? What is this thing that people have written about, sang about, talked about, and experienced? Is it an emotion or a feeling? An action?  Is it a phenomenon? What is this thing that everyone wants, but doesn't actually know what it is?  Let's face it: we hear people all the time saying that love is the remedy to the world's problems blah blah blah etc. Yet, with all preaching we don't even know what we need; we don't know what love is. I think we once knew what it was, but got lost in all the commotion. We don't take time to understand what it is; we just regurgitate what somebody else says until it spirals beyond control, and we get caught up in our own mess; in our own lies. Wow, that was depressing. Anyway, I digress. So, on to the point, what is love? Personally, I think that pure, real, true love is out of human reach. I know what some of you are thinking, and you don't have to agree with me. So, chill out. Anyway, I believe this because I look aro...
